CHAP Announces CMS Approval of Jan 2018 Home Health Standards of Excellence -Including New HHA Medicare CoPs

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the January 2018 Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP) Standards of Excellence for Home Health Providers that incorporate the new Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs) requirements Nov 21, 2017.

These standards are now available to:
currently accredited home health agencies in LinQ , under Menu,  Other Actions, View Documents, and
Other organizations and individuals at CHAP Education

The January 2018 Home Health Standards are presented in the revised framework to supports a HHA’s understanding of the standards, as well as guidance to demonstrate compliance and improve performance.  This edition also orders the standards placing patient-centered care first, followed by those standards addressing established practice in the care of patients at home and in the community.

“The 2018 Standards of Excellence for Home Health Providers demonstrate CHAP’s leadership and knowledge of the home health care landscape,” said Maureen Spivack, Chair of the CHAP Board of Directors. “As the accreditor of the largest number of Medicare-certified home health organizations, CHAP gives its Medicare certified partners a framework to support their transition to the new CoPs.” 

All initial and renewing Medicare-certified home health providers with site visits on or after January 13, 2018, are evaluated against these standards.  The standards also apply to Medicaid providers seeking initial or renewed accreditation in states that require compliance with the CMS home health CoPs.
