9th Annual National Health Care Decision Day
Saturday, April 16 marked the 9th Annual National Health Care Decision Day (NHDD). NHDD is a celebration of life and is designed to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning.
On this day every year, a coordinated effort takes place among organizations in all 50 states to raise awareness surrounding the importance of end of life care and planning. Additionally, as part of NHDD, there is an initiative to provide clear, concise, and consistent information on healthcare decision-making to both the public and providers/facilities through the widespread availability and dissemination of simple, free, and uniform tools to guide the process.
According to The Conversation Project (TCP), a national non-profit dedicated to helping people talk about their wishes for end-of-life care, 90% of people say that talking with their loved ones about end of life care is important, however only 27% of those surveyed had actually done so. It is the goal of organizations like TCP to promote conversations about values, and what matters most instead of just talking about death and illness.
At CHAP, our goal is to ensure that our customers are prepared to provide the best care possible for patients at all stages of their lives. Knowing the wishes of patients and their families is key to providing quality care and achieving the best possible results, so we encourage everyone to have this conversation.
