Tom Price Confirmed as Secretary of the HHS
On Friday, February 10, Tom Price was confirmed by the Senate as the new Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Secretary Price is an orthopedic surgeon who formerly served in the U.S. House of Representatives as the Chair of the House Budget Committee and a member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee.
During his time in Congress, Tom Price was a firm supporter of home based care, and last year spoke out against the demonstration implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requiring prior authorization for home health services. Over the course of his time as secretary, he will be a key player in the republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
CHAP will continue to monitor Price’s efforts as HHS Secretary and provide updates as they are made available.
