Home Health Planning Improvement Act Empowers PAs and NPs
Earlier this week Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ben Cardin (D-MD) introduced S. 445, the Home Health Planning Improvement Act. The bill would allow nurse practitioners (NP), physician assistants (PA) and other specific advanced practice health professionals to order home health services and conduct the face-to-face encounter for their Medicare patients.
This bill if passed will allow seniors who see either an NP or PA for their primary care to avoid additional visits with a physician to receive home health services, which was required in the past. This will reduce delays and administrative effort for both patients and healthcare professionals.
CHAP will continue to monitor this bill as it moves to the Senate for a vote and provide updates as they are made available.
