Legislative Effort to Repeal Home Care Wage Rule
Earlier this week Senate Republicans announced that a bill is being drafted with the goal of rolling back minimum wage and overtime protections granted to home care workers in 2015 under the Obama Administration. This bill would be designed to reverse steps taken by the Department of Labor (DOL) to eliminate the exemption of home care workers from federal wage laws.
Prior to the DOL taking this action, home care agencies were not required to pay minimum wage and overtime to workers providing domestic services. In addition the decisions by the DOL was strongly opposed by the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) as well as other industry stakeholders.
