CHAP Statement- Hurricane Harvey 08.31.2017
August 31, 2017, the Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP) offers our prayers and support to those communities in Texas, Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast affected by Hurricane Harvey. As we witness the devastating flooding, CHAP applauds the unified efforts of individuals to save lives and continue care and support of LA and TX residents. We also recognize that this emergency is far from over as the rain associated with Hurricane Harvey results in flooding that further impact patients and communities along the Gulf Coast.
In these moments, we are reminded of the importance of upholding our commitment and that of our accredited organizations to the health and care of patients in each community. Emergencies can strike any community at any time, but through the emergency preparedness planning and response of accredited home health agencies, hospices, home medical equipment providers and pharmacies their teams reduce the suffering and continue the care of those who return home or those displaced to other communities.
CHAP is an independent, not-for-profit organization accrediting over 6,000 providers of home and community care and services nationwide, including home health, hospice, home medical equipment, private duty care and pharmacy services. Founded in 1965, CHAP was the first accreditation organization dedicated to advancing quality care provided in the home and community - supporting individuals to remain safely in their homes and community.
