Home Health Medicare and Medicaid Moratoria Extended Through July 2018
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) announced the continued extension of the moratoria through on the enrollment of new Medicare home health agencies and branch locations through July 2018. The statewide moratoria continue in:
- Michigan, and
The continued extension is in accordance with the Health and Home Services (HHS)-Office of Inspector General (OIG) noting these states a representing a significant potential for home health fraud. waste or abuse.
The moratoria also apply to enrollment of new Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) home health providers in the same states as listed above.
NOTE Medicaid Exception: Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) must now require home health providers in their networks to enroll with the state Medicaid agency. If your agency was participating in one (1) or more Medicaid MCO network prior to Jan 1, 2018, and must now enroll in Medicaid in any of the above states, the agency is not subject to the moratoria and may enroll as a new Medicaid provider.
For current home health agencies in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas, the moratoria in the above does not apply to:
- Changing the location of your home health agency
- Changes in your agency information such as the phone number or address
- Changes in ownership (except in those circumstances noted in 42 CFR 424.500)
