The Community Health Accreditation Program continues to be the accreditation partner of choice for the largest number of home and community-based health care providers in both the Medicare-certified home health and hospice markets, according to information published in the Federal Register.
Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Studies (CMS) publishes the Financial Report to Congress for the prior fiscal year, in which the agency summarizes the work of accrediting organizations (AO) with deemed status. According to FY 2013 data, the number of Medicare-certified home health agencies and hospice organizations that choose, CHAP outnumbered all other accrediting organizations with deemed status for these services.
According to the FY 2013 data, CHAP has captured 47 percent of the deemed Medicare-certified home health market and 50 percent of the deemed Medicare-certified hospice market. This means that nearly one out of every two Medicare-certified home health and hospice organizations that choose deemed status selected CHAP as their accreditation partner.
Home health and hospice providers who wish to participate in the Medicare program can choose to have the state agency (SA) conduct their surveys or choose deemed status by selecting to have an approved AO conduct their survey.
As the Medicare-certified home health market continues to grow, the number of providers who choose deemed status continues to grow as well.
